My earliest illustrations appeared in the margins and on the endpapers of my favorite childhood books. My mother, in an effort to encourage my creativity and, perhaps, to save the books, folded sheets of typing paper, where she wrote stories that she made up, and then gave them to me to illustrate, helping me create my very own illustrated books.
Since then I've worked on staff for a variety of newspapers in upstate New York and the San Francisco Bay Area, and freelanced for many magazines, more newspapers and some book publishers.
Some of the clients I've drawn pictures for include Business Week, U.S. News & World Report, Redbook, Sunset, Access, Fast Company, Out, Mambo.com, Family Fun, Parenting, Child, Cricket, Cicada, Texas Monthly, The Boston Globe, Family Fun, Organic Gardening, Natural Health, Shape, Condé Nast Traveler, The Los Angeles Times, The Oakland Tribune, The Washington Post, Esquire, Spy, Avon Books, Bantam Books, Mercury Press and The Algonquin Press.
You can see more illustrations at Laughing Stock.
I live and work in Santa Rosa, California, about 50 miles north of San Francisco.
